Introduction:
Our film is The Acres, a drama that explores motherhood and the impact of even the most fleeting of friendships. This film began its life as a two-minute video entry for The Pitch Film Fund, which then went on to win the Drama prize.
Inspiration:
The Pitch is unique as it asks you to adapt a story from the Bible. This, mixed with my interest in true crime, resulted in The Acres. The unknowns of first-time motherhood and the pain of living with the fallout of another person’s actions really intrigued me.
The Process:
The Acres is a film that required we all be outdoors for the shoot, so you would think filming in August would be a safe bet weather-wise, right? Wrong! Bristol served all the elements over the course of our three-day shoot. Every single member of our cast and crew were troopers and met every weather curveball with good humour.
What It Means to Be a Finalist:
Having The Acres recognised at Worcester Film Festival is wonderful. The festival is run by a team that has all worked in filmmaking, and they understand the journey of getting a film this far. It’s special to have that acknowledgement from your filmmaking peers.
