My film, The Archway, is a fantasy story that explores our relationship with hesitation and how sometimes the best things in life can come from taking a leap of faith. It was created from my own realisation that I was missing out on parts of life due to my fixation on overthinking, robbing me of all spontaneity and the benefits that come with this. The film also explores the theme of letting go, as our lead finds herself stuck in the comfort of what she knows, unable to move forward into the next stage of her life.

All filming took place in the Lake District, using several locations spread across many miles, we stitched them all together to feel like one one succinct location. We dressed a barn to feel like the backroom of an antique warehouse, an amazing man by the name of Ollie allowed us to shoot in his actual antique warehouse for the opening of the film, and we even shot in a shed to feel like one of the segmented store fronts. One of the biggest challenges was lining up the forest inside the archway to the room itself; these were shot many weeks apart and required careful measuring/motorised equipment to replicate identical movements in both locations. Another fun fact is that we used baby powder to cover the entire set in dust, needing to buy so much that the lady at the corner shop congratulated me on my ‘newborn’.

Being selected as a finalist at Worcester Film Festival means a huge amount to me and my team. We spent many hours and dedication putting the film together, so to have it screened and hopefully enjoyed by audiences is very special. I was very lucky to work with such a talented team, so that is particularly meaningful to me to see them get the recognition they deserve.
