The year is 1888. The Whitechapel murders continue to ravage the East End of London.
LEVIATHAN is a short film based on A Knife in the Fog, a novel by retired US Army physician Bradley Harper. It’s a chilling reimagining of the Jack the Ripper murders, bringing
Arthur Conan Doyle to the East End of London to assist in the case. Uncertain he can do it alone, he enlists the help of his old lecturer and inspiration for Sherlock Holmes, Professor Joseph Bell. Along with Margaret Harkness, they embark on the deadly mission of catching the killer.
Inspiration:
LEVIATHAN is an adaptation of a book by Bradley Harper, who has worked closely with director James Mansell on bringing it to the screen. The “unfortunate” women of Whitechapel are on the lowest rung of British society, but the three main characters are willing to put themselves in harm’s way to see justice done on their behalf. To do that, they must first overcome their differences.
The Process:
Filming took place not far from Whitechapel in the East End of London, which gave the production an added element of immersion. Working from a small budget, the crew worked hard to create a Victorian London you could feel and touch, which also helped the actors lose themselves in the world.
What It Means to Be a Finalist:
The team behind the film are very excited to be screening the film at Worcester Film Festival. It’s a festival the team has wanted to be involved with for a long time, so this is very special.
